A little fight in you. I like that.
Scratch Texture Tutorial
Program used: Photoshop 7*On the images, they really don't match up to the "steps" that are in the written text. Hopefully it's not too confusing. :P
I'm going on the assumption that most of you know how to do at least very basic things in PS.
Step 1 - Open a new image. CTRL+N
Click on the Preset Sizes and select the 640x480 image size. You can have your content settings to either of the three.
Step 2 - My image opens with a white background, so I will hit CTRL+I and invert the image to black. In this step, I will also make sure my foreground/background colors are white/black. THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR LATER!
This image is helpful!Step 3 - Make a new layer either by hitting the new layer button (refer to previous image if unknown) or hitting SHIFT+CTRL+N. (HIT OK DO NOT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS!)
Step 4 - Select the brush tool. Refer to image in Step 2 for where it is. Then go to Window - Brushes You will see something like this.
Select the soft round brush at 5px.
Step 5 - This is the fun stuff! :D Editing your brush to make it awesome! From here on, I'll just screen cap my settings so you can match them.

Step 6 - Now, with your saved brush. GO CRAZY! Draw all over your black canvas. :D
Step 7 - Click on your layer with the black. Go to Filter - Noise - Add Noise Settings like mine.
Step 8 - This is optional, but it adds more to your texture. Go back to where you edited your brush. Turn off the TEXTURE option. It should make your brush show up better in the preview and slightly longer. Make another new layer and repeat step 6.
FIN.
There are so many ways into doing this, and more ways to add to the one you just made! Play around. GO CRAZY. >[
